Even very senior executives can be daunted by the thought of talking to a TV reporter, the local newspaper, two hundred employees, clued up financial analysts or a public meeting. It’s natural. Insignia’s communication coaches can take some of that nervousness away by providing techniques, practice and constructive feedback that result in enhanced confidence and greater effectiveness. Training and coaching can be delivered on a one to one basis right through to communication best practice sessions for hundreds of delegates at company conferences. Our objective is always the same – to enable executives to better deliver their chosen messages to their stakeholders.
Executive communication training and coaching
Whatever their functional responsibilities, all executives have one thing in common – the need to be able to communicate effectively. From teleconferences and staff appraisals through to client and staff meetings, managers are expected to be able to get their point across. But many have never been taught how. Insignia can provide your executives with the secrets of success based on personalised training and on-going coaching. Our supportive approach means that managers build their skills and confidence and become markedly more effective in getting their message across.
Speaker/presentation training
Businesspeople are required to present in a whole range of situations – annual meetings, conferences, product launches, new business pitches and presentations to secure investment. Often, the outcome of the encounter has a significant effect on their business. So ensuring that executives have the skills to succeed in this environment is crucial. Insignia can provide the insights and expertise to power up executives with tips and techniques to achieve better outcomes. And feedback – whether as part of a one off course, or as an on-going coach - can sharpen performance ahead of key presentations.
Communication planning workshop
Communication is most effective when it is planned and purposeful: only by adopting this approach can communication fully contribute to the achievement of organisational objectives. Insignia’s communication planning workshop is aimed at PR, communication and marketing professionals and reveals a ten step practical approach to communication planning which can be applied within any organisation. The approach results in better targeted, more effective communication that is squarely focused on achieving business objectives.
Key message development workshops
Communication is all about getting your messages across effectively: achieving this goal requires the right messages in the first place. Insignia’s key message development workshops help to develop, roadtest and hone key messages, and build the confidence of business executives to deliver them in a powerful and engaging way.
Media training
Dealing with the media is perhaps one of the most stressful communication situations. Your comments will be captured for all to see, and the worry of being misquoted or failing to answer a killer question gnaws away at the back of your mind.
Insignia has the tools and expertise to take away many of these fears so that you can approach a media interview with confidence armed with the skills and knowledge you need to succeed. Insignia’s consultants have trained literally thousands of executives in Europe, the Middle East, North America and Asia. We pair experienced journalists with empathetic trainers to deliver a realistic and valuable training experience.
Your experience will be tailored to your needs, both in terms of interview types – TV or press, promotional or crisis, soft or confrontational – and the scenarios on which they are based. Every delegate benefits from a DVD of their performance, personalised feedback notes and an enhanced skillset. Many have said that the experience provided by Insignia’s consultants was the best training experience of their careers.
Media training for risk and crisis communicators
Communicating effectively with the public about risk is one of the biggest challenges faced by a spokesperson. Research commissioned by Insignia Communications into the way that spokespeople communicated about the 2009 swine flu outbreak identified the key ingredients of a successful risk communicator. These insights have been used to create a training experience specifically designed to provide the skills and techniques to communicate effectively about risk.
The course provides evidence-based training on:
- the creation and delivery of effective messages about risk
- the type of language to use to most effectively connect with the public
- body language to engage the audience
- employing your own personal style for maximum impact
- choosing your appearance to deliver credibility
- the importance of the right environment to support your message
Training includes analysis and learnings from real media interviews and realistic interview practice based on tailored risk scenarios. It is suitable for anyone likely to communicate about risks including disease communication, product safety, environmental health concerns, accidents, health and safety, natural disasters, public transport and online security.
Crisis communication workshop
Crises can hit the biggest of brands and the best of companies: their future success will be determined by the way they respond when the crisis comes. So, any organisation that places store on its reputation needs to be geared up to respond with effective crisis communication in the event of an incident or issue. Insignia’s crisis communication workshop is designed to support this goal and reduce an organisation’s vulnerability to crisis. The workshop uses theory and the latest case studies to deliver an inter-active experience that builds resilience to crisis. It covers topics including creation of a culture most likely to identify and address issues before they become crises, and implementing an approach to preparation which not only leaves organisations strongly placed to manage a crisis, but which also acts as a crisis prevention mechanism. As well as providing a crisis communication infrastructure to protect reputation, it also considers online reputation management and the, the leadership behaviours required to ensure effective crisis management.
Online reputation management workshop
Today, reputations are made and destroyed online. Negative commentary on page one of a Google search can cause customers, investors and prospective employees to turn away from an organisation. Online chatter can continue unnoticed until it transforms into a full-blown public crisis – sometimes before the organisation even knows the crisis is happening. And the pace and reach of online media can accelerate a crisis if an organisation lacks the digital tools to communicate just as rapidly. This workshop reveals the key online elements required by any organisation wanting to manage and protect its reputation online. Using analysis of recent cases and online tools and techniques, it is designed to gear up organisations for reputation management in the digital age.
Case study
When this household name decided to close its UK manufacturing facility with the loss of several hundred jobs, it was clear that effective communication would be crucial to a successful outcome. With so many people affected and so many people to talk to – amongst them employees, politicians and the media – the senior management team had a daunting challenge ahead of them. And – whilst they may not always admit it – many senior executives are very nervous about communicating, especially when there’s bad news to get across. Insignia’s Jonathan Hemus spent the weeks ahead of the announcement training and coaching the team to communicate their messages with clarity, empathy and credibility. No one enjoyed making the announcement, but the training that preceded it meant that its communication was achieved professionally, compassionately and with maximum clarity and control.
